"Fisher, birthdays are NOT about toys," Anya lectured with a twirl of her hair and batting of eyelashes.
"What are birthdays about, Anya?" I inquired.
"Birthdays are about cake," she answered immediately.
"What do you think birthdays are about, Easton?" I continued questioning around the car while traveling across town.
"Birthdays are about turning the next number, " Easton carefully articulated.
"Fisher, what do you think birthdays are about?" I finally asked.
"Birthdays are about toys," he replied, neatly closing the conversation.

So about that cake. Well, it was not exactly a score (I know, because the birthday boy hardly touched it). It was supposed to be a basketball cake originally, but then Fisher decided rather last minute he wanted a Batman cake, too. Then Easton suggested he ask for a cake with Batman playing basketball. I overruled that idea. But I did end up baking two cakes: one basketball, one batman. While checking to see if one of the cakes was done, I dumped it into the hot oven. As you can imagine, it was a mess (and by the way, hats off to my servant-husband, I mean, my servant-hearted husband, he instantly cleaned it up without even skipping a beat. I just stood over him and supervised. Such a good man, he is!). So Plan D kicked in. A basketball cake with Batman on top. And Vwa-la! Happy Birthday Buddy!!!!
