The Saddest Day of My Life

Lucy, the dog, leaped out of the front door; in less than two seconds she snatched a young bunny in locked jaws and would not let go! It was awful!!! I was home alone with the kids. Three minutes felt like thirty. I lost hope for saving the bunny's life after one minute pleading with Lucy to release her prize. Nothing worked!

After screaming and whacking and desperately flailing about, it was too late. The bunny died. My three children displayed unexplainable courage. Their mother had none. Easton put the bunny in a bag, gathered shovels and we headed to Manatee Forest. Anya carefully selected cheerful, yellow forsythias and scattered them on top of the grave Fisher and I ruefully dug.

Easton kept asking "Why can't Lucy see how cute bunnies are?!"

Anya declared, "This is the saddest day of my life!"

And we named her Esther Bunny.
