Half awake, half asleep God put an idea in my mind for our family the other early morning. You see, sometimes the first reaction from my kids is, just that, reactive. Instead of being slow to speak and slow to anger, they are quick to speak and quick to anger. So when the Lord gave me this idea, I began to implement it immediately.
I asked one of my children, "Would you rather be a wasp or a butterfly?"
My child replied, "Butterfly."
I agreed.
So now when a child reacts quickly with sharp words, I point out that that is like a wasp. Then we discuss what a butterfly would do in the same situation and connect how we can handle the situation more like a butterfly instead of a wasp. So if a wasp gets angry, it stings, but if a butterfly gets angry, it responds with grace.
And they get that!
